Back and shoulders is a large area with coarse, dense hair — a good combination for laser, and a longer appointment. Most clients book it because self-maintenance is genuinely impractical: you cannot see it, you cannot reach it, and the stubble phase is uncomfortable under clothing. Expect to lie face down while your technician works in overlapping passes.
Every other area can be managed, badly, with a razor. The back cannot. Shaving it requires another person or an awkward long-handled device, the result lasts a day or two, and the regrowth phase is itchy and visible. Waxing works but means a standing appointment every few weeks, indefinitely, and leaves the area sore under a shirt.
The upside is that back and shoulder hair is usually exactly what laser handles best: dark, coarse and densely rooted. The shoulders and upper back tend to clear first, with the lower back and the area along the spine often needing a little more patience.
You lie face down and your technician works in a grid across the area — shoulders, upper back, mid back, lower back — with the cooling spray firing ahead of each pulse. The shoulder caps and the skin over the shoulder blades and spine sit close to the bone and feel sharper; the broad flat areas are straightforward. Because of the surface area, this is one of the longer appointments on the menu.
